Ume Boys “Super-ripe Nanko plums” pre-orders start on March 21

With a shelf life of just one day, these 100% fully-ripened plums are rarely distributed.

Ume Hikari Co., Ltd. / Ume Boys will begin accepting reservations for 2025 “Super Fully-Ripened Nanko Ume” on Friday, March 21st.

What are “super-ripe Nanko plums”?

“Super-ripe plums” are plums that have ripened on the tree, receiving nourishment from the tree until they naturally fall. The skin is soft and can be eaten as is. The aroma of fully ripened plums is incredible, and the moment they arrive, the room will be filled with a sweet, fruity scent. The taste is sour, but you can also taste the original sweetness of the plum.
The “super-ripe ume”, which are 100% ripe and have the most intense aroma, are very soft and delicate, and only last for about two days after being harvested, so it is very rare for them to be distributed in stores.
The fresh ume that is generally distributed needs to be kept for several days from the time of harvest until it reaches the customer, so most of the ume sold is “green ume” that is picked from the tree when it is not yet ripe, or ume that has been ripened further after being picked. Green ume also ripens further to become yellow and soft, but the aroma and softness of the skin are very different from that of “super-ripe ume” that has ripened until it falls naturally.
The Ume Boys harvest the ume plums that have just fallen from the trees in the early morning, check each one individually, and then send them directly to customers on the same day, selling them as super-ripe ume plums. We also ask customers to pickle them by the day after they arrive.
These super-ripe Nanko ume plums are particularly good for making umeboshi. The skin is soft and fruity, making for the perfect umeboshi. Also, when making umeshu (plum wine) or ume syrup, the sweet aroma of the super-ripe ume can be brought out.
The ume farmer's recommended pickling method is also introduced on the Ume Boys YouTube channel.

<Notes>

About the blemishes: Almost all of the plums will have small scratches on them when they fall. These scratches will not be visible once they have been pickled. We remove any plums with blemishes that could lead to rot, but there is a possibility that they may worsen during delivery. Please use the enclosed blemish selection sheet to make your decision. We pack a little extra in the package.
About the size: As we send plums that have fallen that day, we cannot accept requests for specific sizes. We will deliver mainly L to 3L-sized plums so that you can enjoy the softness of Nanko plums.

Born in 1993 in Minabe Town, Wakayama Prefecture, to a family of plum farmers established in 1904.
Graduated from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at Hokkaido University. While still a student, he learned about the current situation of the aging of the plum-growing region, and decided to create an agriculture that young people would find “interesting and worthwhile”, and to pass on umeboshi to the next generation. In 2019, he opened a umeboshi shop where he pickled ume with only salt and shiso to bring out the original flavor of the ume. He recruited new farmers from all over the country and created 10 ume farmers, known as the “Ume Boys”. He continues to take on the challenge of passing on the ume farming business to the next generation, including creating a system that allows new farmers to become head of the farm after three years.
